Why? What for? How?

Throughout childhood and adolescence, kids are naturally full of questions. But as they grow, many of those questions start hitting walls like:

“I can’t right now.”

“I’m busy.”

“Ask me later.”

When they don’t find answers at home, they look elsewhere: from friends, social media, forums, and videos online…And there, without filters or guidance, they come across messages like:

“Everybody does it, it’s not a big deal.”
“If it feels good, it can’t be wrong.”
“Don’t tell your parents — they won’t understand.”

That’s how they get exposed to distorted ideas about:

• Sex and relationships
• Substance use
• Mental Health
• Dismorphia from body image
• Violence and self-harm

So, what can we do as parents?

• Listen before we judge

• Respond, honestly and informed yourself.
